Trial Powered by Clinpal a finalist in Eyeforpharma Barcelona Awards for the most valuable patient initiative
STIRLING, UNITED KINGDOM - Mar 2, 2015 - eClinicalHealth Limited, a technology and consulting company dedicated to providing more efficient cloud-based clinical trial solutions, today announced that one of the trials it is supporting is a finalist to receive Eyefopharmas Most Valuable Patient Initiative award.
The first-ever virtual trial to be conducted in Europe, the study is the result of a collaboration between eClinicalHealth, Finnish company Mendor, global healthcare leader Sanofi and others. Called the VERKKO study, it is aimed at examining the effectiveness of the Mendor Smart 3G wireless blood glucose monitor. Thanks in part to cloud-based eClinicalHealth technology, the monitor automatically transmits patients blood glucose data so patients and physicians can make real-time decisions about diet and medications.
This trial is historic not only because its Europes first remote clinical study to include fully electronic informed consent, said Kai Langel, Co-Founder and Director, Patient Solutions at eClinicalHealth. It proves the virtual model saves time and money in patient recruitment and makes everything easier for patients. This simplicity ensures better patient retention and more engaged stakeholders.
With its nomination, eClinicalHealth joins an elite group of global organizations including Abbott BGP, Allergan, Bayer, CSL Behring, GlaxoSmithKline, Ferring Pharmaceuticals, Sanofi and other major European and global companies.
Participants learn about the study through an electronic patient information sheet, which they can study at home on their own schedules. Before electronically signing electronic informed consent forms, they can ask questions from the Investigator using Clinpals messaging features. Once enrolled, study materials are delivered to their home. The Clinpal system then helps them set up the Mendor Smart wireless glucose meter. Once connected, the Mendor Smart device guides patients through a structured glucose profiling protocol, with patients accessing detailed profiling reports in real time through Clinpal.
The VERKKO trial provides a unique and efficient trial experience for the patients, which is also reflected in the judges comments: Every patients dream trial!
