Human primary cells are commonly used in vitro for preclinical and research biological studies, such as inter- and intracellular communication, developmental biology, and mechanistic studies in cancer, Parkinson's disease, and diabetes. Human primary cells derived from a specific tissue and maintained with appropriate primary cell culture media and supplements now represent a more advanced model than immortalized cells to recapitulate that tissue cell type.
