EHRs Struggle to Exchange Data, Vendors and Providers Agree

July 31, 2014 | A workgroup centered on meaningful use guidelines for electronic health records has concluded that hospitals and providers have sharply limited ability to share patient records with one another. The format known as "consolidated clinical document architecture," which is meant to be a universal template for moving health records between systems, was cited as a major bottleneck, thanks to too little top-down guidance on how patient data should be captured and coded, and too little live testing of vendors to ensure they can correctly render records in this format.
