Google Pilots Medical Consults as Search Results

October 14, 2014 | A limited pool of users who search for medical symptoms on Google are now being offered the option to speak with health professionals in live video chats. In a trial run of the program, part of the Helpouts series of instructive video chats, Google is picking up the tab for the live consults, which could help head off the kinds of speculative, worst-case-scenario self-diagnoses that Internet searches are notorious for encouraging. It is unclear, however, how the service could be scaled up, or what payment model might eventually be used, if Google deems the program a success. Wired
