By Allison Proffitt
January 9, 2025 | Finalists have been named in two of the three awards programs slated for the SCOPE Summit, February 3-6, in Orlando, Fla. Entries in the Participant Engagement Awards and the Site Innovation Awards have been named finalists. Winners will be announced on site at the event.
Site Innovation Awards
The Site Innovation Awards recognize sites and partnerships pioneering new approaches to improve clinical trials and inspiring the Clinical Operations Community at SCOPE.
“We’re all trying to solve some of the same problems, regardless of which stakeholder you are. It comes back to how do we enroll more patients in clinical trials faster and get the drugs, the molecules, to patients who need them,” said Amanda Wright, co-founder and COO of JAVARA, and one of the co-chairs of the awards program. SCOPE’s Site Innovation Awards seek to recognize, “ways that sites can innovative within their work and within their workflows that can be replicated and scaled to the benefit of the entire ecosystem,” she said.
Site innovation comes in many forms, Wright said. In the two years the awards program has existed, the judges have seen exceptional innovation around operations, workflows, data management, trial strategy, and much more. Wright said the judges prioritize impact when assessing site innovation and whether the approach can be replicated across sites.
“There are so many problems that need to be solved, but they’re not all the same size and scope,” she said. “Trying to approach this in a way where we can have the greatest impact and influence across the enterprise has been our strategy.”

PEA embodies the values and personal accomplishments of Jerry Matczak, who passed away soon after receiving the inaugural 2017 award.
Entries are accepted from sites, CRO’s, e-patient advisors, agencies, start-ups, sponsors, and anyone else working to recruit and retain clinical research participants. Entries are assessed based on the project’s success improving access, awareness, and participation in clinical trials; creativity; innovation; regulatory and legal compliance; and the ability to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion.
